What size does your exam form actually want?

Application portals check three things when you upload: the pixel dimensions, the file size in KB, and the format. Miss any one and the upload bounces, usually with an error message that doesn't say which one failed.

Here are the numbers most commonly asked for. Treat this as a starting point and match it against your own notification, because exam bodies revise them between cycles.

Why a correctly sized photo still gets rejected

The most common cause is a file that is under the minimum. Most forms ask for a range, say 20 to 50 KB, and people compress until the number is small without noticing they dropped below the floor. A 12 KB file fails a 20 KB minimum just as surely as a 200 KB one fails the ceiling.

Second most common is orientation. Phone cameras store rotation as a hidden tag rather than actually turning the pixels. Your photo looks upright in the gallery and arrives sideways at the portal. Any tool that reads that tag properly, including this one, fixes it on the way through.

Third is a signature photographed on paper. The paper reads as grey, not white, and some portals bounce it for poor contrast. Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper, photograph it in daylight without shadow, and use the option here that lifts the paper to pure white.

How this tool handles the KB range

It searches for the highest JPEG quality that still lands under your ceiling, so you keep as much detail as the limit allows. If the result falls below the minimum, it first tries a richer encode. Only if that still comes up short does it insert JPEG comment padding, which lifts the file size without altering a single pixel. Every decoder ignores those segments, so the image you see is the image the portal receives.

All of this runs inside your browser. The image is never uploaded, which is why there is no size limit on what you can put in and nothing to store.
